CALL TO ACTION:

BANKERS LAUNCH NEW ATTACK ~ MAKE SURE CONGRESS HEARS FROM YOU!               

Credit unions once again are facing strong opposition in Congress from the bankers.  The bankers sent out an action alert calling on the banking industry to oppose the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act  (CURIA H.R. 2317).

Congress needs to understand that if they don’t want to be caught in the middle of a credit union and banker battle, they must tell the bankers to take their record profits and leave credit unions alone. In short, members of Congress need to tell the bankers to “just knock it off.”

What You Need To Do:                                                                                        

1)      Write or phone your Congressman and Senator to tell them what credit unions mean to you. (An easy way to do this is through the “My Credit Union Is Me” Web Site) http://www.mycuisme.com.    

Share with them the fact that while credit unions have grown in membership and assets, we still have only 6 percent of the market share and it has been that way for the last 11 years.  On the other hand, bankers have become more profitable than the oil industry!

2)   Remind them credit unions have not opposed bankers bettering their own legislative and regulatory environment.

3)       Please tell your Member of Congress when they meet with the bankers they should tell them to knock it off and worry about their own interests.    

4)       Ask your Member of Congress for his or her support of CURIA, H.R. 2317 to ensure credit unions remain a viable financial service choice for millions of hardworking consumers.      

The bankers are only getting more aggressive. If we don’t show the power of credit union grassroots now, it will be too late.  Let’s not let the bankers “out grassroots” us!
